Her preference for endless sentences held together by numerous commas renders her prose a cascade of thoughts which, while mirroring the jumble of her characters’ restless minds, does not make for smooth or even engaging reading. The same goes for her constant determination to wring masses of significance out of simple exchanges (nearly two pages are spent describing a hug between Dina and her daughter), which will quickly become galling for any reader who prefers action to analysis.
